Just picked up the new 4k bluray from Arrow Video. It's incredible. Just incredible. The picture is as good as the best things I've ever seen on 4k. Couldn't ask for better. The hdr does a lot to bring out the colors throughout the movie. Really popping off. All the practical sets and effects are fantastic. They've aged so well because they're practical. So many scenes…
A well done thriller. I like that it's contained to a small cast, keeps you guessing, and wraps up cleanly. A film with extreme efficiency. I appreciate that it's mostly a dialogue drama rather than an action movie. Great cast. Wish Brosnan was in it more.
Btw:
The theatre played 30mins of commercials before the movie. Not previews, not in-house ads for the theatre, not Maria Menounos. Just commercials. Like commercials for house hold products and insurance you would see played during sporting events on TV. Thirty minutes, before a ninety minute movie. This is bleak.
Overall it's not great. Hartnett is really good and carries the film. The direction is cool, and I liked the original music, even though it's basically a nepotism platform. Really good premise but it sorta falls apart and several things happen that are just unexplained and don't make sense.
I don't know where to begin. This movie is amazing. I marked this review without spoilers but I will have some spoilers later, but I'll warn before they start.
One thing I think people should know about this movie is there is a lot of uncomfortable sound design. I have significant issues with my ears, including major sensitivity but also ear pain and tinnitus, so I notice this type of sound design immediately because it gives me so much anxiety…
