There’s a sense of true melancholy throughout the whole film, but nothing remotely “sad” ever happens. It’s only when it all ends and you look back with Sophie do you realize how truly fucking sad this movie is. This hit me on another level and as a struggling father of 3 who just hit 31. It fucking destroyed me.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny 2023
I actually made it through the whole movie thinking everyone was wrong about this movie but that ending is bonkers. The whole concept was poetic and I loved Phoebe Waller-Bridge but I just wish it didn’t get so absurd. Supernatural Indiana Jones I’m all for, but full on time travel felt so bizarre but man, Harrison Ford still has it. Rating this higher than I should because I just love Indiana Jones.

Under the Skin 2013
Mesmerizing. Haunting. Some of the most striking cinematic imagery in recent memory with it's deliberate ambiguity being it's strongest point. Johansson is stunning in a career best performance. Glazer has churned out something absolutely masterful. I dare say my favorite film of the year.

Child 44 2015
I report with a broken heart that Child 44 in it's currently early state is an absolute mess, more a jumble of great scenes than a coherent complete film. What it needs is tighter focus, a good edit, a streamline. There is an exceptional film in here but in it's current cut, the film is exhausting. Though the performances are outstanding particularly from an always reliable Noomi Rapace. While Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman continue to showcase why they're held in such high esteem. Full review tomorrow.
