Watching this just days before Trump steps back into office is a bit foreboding.
It felt like Alex Garland was telling a story which brought home the true horrors of a war, by showing it through the lens of journalists and placing it in a more familiar place.
I imagined it was going to focus more on the cause of the civil war and the divides across the nation, but like that this wasn’t brought to the forefront.

I remember when I was 15 being absolutely stunned by this film. Maybe if I was going in blind again I’d feel more positive about it, although I’m not sure - the twist felt more obvious in retrospect, and compared to other similar films from the same era it isn’t quite up to par.
Nonetheless, I feel that Josh Hartnett never quite got to the level of recognition that he deserved.

A lot of Christmas films just solely depend on you not thinking too much about any single part of them. Like why two body doubles who met on set and never mention having kids would be going to a children’s nativity together. Then get engaged 6 weeks after having met each other.
