  The sheer density of gags in this is off the chain. I kept thinking of Starship Troopers in how much this exists as a prodigious misunderstood satire of the American war machine. Granted, at this point is has been fully reclaimed and most people I follow rate this quite highly.   Really not much redeeming about this one for me. I guess Monroe's performance was grounded and effective but the script didn't give her much to work with.

  An exquisitely bad time.

  Calling a movie harrowing feels almost trite to me in our current age of information, but for this one it's duly descriptive. Manz is the sun at the center of this hazardous system, which pretty singularly depicts hereditary abuse and addiction. Cebe's relationship with her mother is illuminated by the return of Hopper's character from prison, and the remainder of the film penetratively illustrates the hollowness of a family whose constituents are respectively circling the drain…
