  Ridley Scott’s lone entry as a director in the Alien series in the 20th century is one that embraces its core elements of the unknown and how human curiosity can initiate a route to danger. Alien (1979) reflected these elements well for its time, and set a template for films such as John Carpenters The Thing (1982) with its small cast of characters trapped in a tense and violent ‘cat and mouse’ with a extra terrestrial being.
