I really wanted to like this film but found it disappointing. While the life of Londoners in wartime 1940 was impressively portrayed, both characters and plot were curiously uninvolving. So overall it was worthy but dull, somehow missing its intended mark.

Really wanted to like this film but found it quite disappointing. Funereal pace and very little plot, so full of padding. Seemed like more of an excuse to bring together again - after a 5 year break - the old cast and crew, who clearly loved working with each other. Quite liked the ultimate sign-off for Jesse. But the gun fight scene, amongst others, was a little ludicrous.

Vintage Scorsese, brilliantly executed and with a starry cast that really delivered. But far too long and a little self-indulgent (as the director himself would probably acknowledge, judging by a throwaway line at the LFF gala introduction).
