  This was the last film I watched on the CRT television set that lasted throughout my entire adolescent and adult life (R.I.P. 2002-2014) and likely the last film I will ever watch on a CRT TV.

  This rough quality DVD copy of a 1931 silent film was the 1st film I ever watched on a flat screen HDTV.

  Only very good movies (and the excellent performances within) manage such a mix of hilarity and deep heartbreak.

  Throught much of the first 2/3 or so of the movie, I was laughing even as I felt a bone-deep sense of dread, discomfort and sadness.

  I don't know why I tricked myself into thinking this, but I would much rather have had a movie in which it's just an incredibly intense nerd, boring and terrifying two Mormon teens, then deflating the tension every ten or so minutes.

  Instead, of course, we have the contractual "actual horror" that mostly bored me.
