Cage was fantastic, regardless, though.
Miami Vice is hard to say anything about, really. It's one of the most unique movies I think I've ever seen. It's not even really a movie. It's more like a hyper-movie. It's like 10 movies all smashed together. It's like when you would go to the beach as a kid and there would be that art-spinner-thing with the paint where you could put the paint in and it would spread on the canvas. Miami Vice is that.

Sneakily a lot of actual depth (and even at times some seemingly intentional weirdness) for what is functionally just a basic morality play. I do wish that the ending hadn't been so telegraphed and the epilogue sequence so overwrought, but it was still quite a bit better than I expected it to be.
