This movie also is one of the core movies that, at one point in my life, shaped my values. However, it just doesn’t live up to the nostalgia. A spoiled little kid who is really good at chess gets everything he wants and wins all the time? That is unrealistic and sets up false expectations for other young chess players. It is also unfortunate that such a cool sport like chess is ruined by players that absolutely REFUSE to shower. Chess is a game of war, class, mind, and grit. Or at least it used to be. 6/10 film.

One of my dad’s all time favorite movies. There are a couple of reasons I like this movie. Number one is they speak Latin in THE COOLEST way ever, and validates my decision of sitting through three whole years of Advanced Latin. Number two, Val Kilmer is one of the undisputed goats of acting. Number three, the Wild West is cool and an ever-present cultural phenomenon. Sometimes I wish it was still real. This movie is Sheriff Callie on steroids, and one of the all time great Wild West films. 8/10 movie.

One of the greatest films of all time. My parents’ wedding was The Princess Bride themed, and I hear it was pretty awesome. It masterfully builds a world in such a short amount of time, and has this magical feeling of whimsy that no other movie can recreate. A pure and genuine 10/10 film.

A VERY overrated movie. It is funny but nothing crazy. Usually comedies don’t get put into the same category as other movies, and this one is for good reason (it’s not that funny or thought provoking). It is iconic but 4/10.
