I'm conflicted about my final thoughts on this film. While it was a movie on love and the relationship between the teacher and his student(s) I couldn't quite determine if it was a criticism of grooming or actually a romanticization of it. Yes, Seydoux and Garrel are incredibly beautiful, but if that's what stuck out to most people in their reviews, I feel like it missed the mark.
I have to admit, I did enjoy the quite stereotypical "French" elements…
so many beautiful scenes and great symbolism!
if someone tells me this is their favorite movie I will simultaneously respect them and take that as a red flag of pretentiousness and run away.
at times I was a bit distracted thinking about how much Belmondo's knees must have hurt from jumping from all those trees and how he smokes with his whole face.

Honestly, I didn't think I would enjoy this movie so much and CRY?? Me, the group of girls I was with, and the full theatre were sniffling and blowing their noses, but also laughing at the silliness that is Bridget Jones. (side note: a full theatre feels so rare now. I love the collectiveness of watching a movie with strangers and observing what people laugh at)
