I watched this in the best possible way - on a sleepy new year’s eve (past the clock!) without knowing who the fuck Bros were or what I was about to see. Been a running joke with my dad for about six years. Finally getting to see it again. You could say it’s fate, what this film has meant to me, like it’s a rectangle, and I’m a rectangle, and together we make a square.

A Grand Day Out 1989
The next two are far more external in their eerie post-industrial English dread, but this is wholly pervasive - this is a myopic blue glow inside a marble. Even the funny bits - which are genuinely funny and deeply charming - are cut through with silence and that ever-present black and blue matte painting. It's a cop-out to call up Vibe as the sole defence of a film's aesthetic merit, but I have no problem using it as the sole defence as to why it's my favourite.

Spiritually exhausting. I came home and realised I had chosen the things in my life well because none of them make me feel like watching this movie did. There were jokes that made me smile but I couldn't remember any of them as soon as I came out the door of the screening.
