Night on the Galactic Railroad 1985
This movie is hard to describe. It was pretty slow, but it's probably one of the most dream-like experiences I've had watching a movie. It's surreal, it's that feeling of being spaced out and being really deep within your thoughts or a really distant memory you can't tell if it actually happened or not.
It uses these sorts of feelings to tell a story about self-sacrifice through symbolism (and weirdly enough, a pretty twisted approach on Christianity), and while it flew over my head at first it's definitely one I'll be thinking about for a while.
