If youre looking for stomach turning butchery, this is 5* and a dialled up nod to suspenseful slashers. I'd go as far as to say this film stands alone with MAYBE The Substance as the pinnacle of practical effects and visceral meaty gore in 2024. I'm sure there's a story involving the previous entries but Im not convinced I needed it, which is why it's 3*s. There was no attempt to nurture these characters, explain the lore or give me a reason to watch this movie again.
Such an audiovisual feast. It had me from start to finish. The attention to detail in sounds, colour work, camera angles... staggering, I could not take my eyes off it. Like a symphony in movie form. A fully believable cast of brilliant characters with a just a hint of wackiness. A wickedly twisted concept that set the scene for a really moving emotive story that has stuck with me all day. This should be 5 stars really, my first must-watch this year.

Too much time was spent building up Paddy's character in the present without delving into the atrocious past hidden and hinted at in his farmhouse basement. His poorly concealed bitterness stole every scene and his vile temper drove an otherwise slow reveal. Louise' personality took far too long to emerge, she spent most of the movie nodding and agreeing to please a husband she didn't even love anymore. When she finally opened up in the argument scene the movie started…
