Light Sleeper 1992
Sometimes MUBI scrolling for half an hour with the help of LB (I need to make use of my subscriptions !) actually pays off! Excellent moody male film with early 90s aesthetics (there’s a minute long scene of just the camera slowly panning on a “world coffee house” wall painting) and a main cast with a heart. That ending actually worked for me, weirdly romantic. Secretly an Armani commercial – I need a fancy scarf to wear as well when I’m writing my diary.

Didn’t make me understand anything about the genius of Bob Dylan so many millions praised, included the Nobel committee. The others artists featured are more interesting, listening to Joan Baez while doing chores this weekend thanks to this motion picture.

I don’t know why I didn’t like this at all, because it does feature a lot of the elements I like in Rohmer films. It might be simply that these kind of characters – spoiled intellectuals having an almost romance while having a lot of conversations – suddenly become quite annoying when they are in my own contemporary setting and there is no French language to cover up their immaturity. At least they didn’t have the usual conversation about polyamory,…
