  Powerful performances, but I thought that the structure of the screenplay (not the content) was loose. It bounced between refreshing scenes and acting to scenes reminiscent of watching a bad Shakespeare film (very little of the movie). I really was rooting for this movie to be better than it was since there was so much outrage it didn't get an Oscar nod. While I think it should have definitely gotten more for the acting, there wasn't necessarily anything spectacular about the direction, pace, or overall writing. Saoirse, Florence, Laura, Timothée though... great!

  The worst thing you could have imagined happened here. Horrible writing. The worst score and timing. I told myself I wasn’t going to watch this film because there are so many slave films and I want to focus on original works, but figured that wasn’t fair. I should have stuck to my gut.
