  I really want to love Wes Anderson but his movies tend to ring a bit hollow for me in impact. Not to say they’re bad films by any means; they’re often stylistically rich with good humor, and layered meta-textual storytelling. Asteroid City uses layers of diegetic distance to tackle existentialism and the search for meaning, grief, and loneliness and on paper that sounds right up my alley but for some reason I don’t find myself particularly moved by it.
