The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
Good messages don’t always make good movies. Nominated for best foreign film but still feels like it’s made by a western director with basic storytelling tropes and an unnecessary nearly 3 hour run time. Just tells you the message of the story over and over with no sense of subtlety nor does it dive deep into its Islamic background which would give more nuance to to the message of the story and how the country got there with it different perspectives. Basically the movie exists as a way for western critics to give themselves a pat on the back for promoting a good message film.
