Columbus 2017
Such a compact and elegant film. I remember being captivated by its form and presentation when it first released but found the relationship between Jin and Casey a bit too understated, even though that’s generally my kind of thing. Babygirl 2024
Babygirl is great at presenting moral failure as a complex issue, rather than just a simple right vs. wrong. A more typical, boring version of this film might resort to shameful judgment or a "you reap what you sow" message. While it's obvious that what’s happening is "wrong”, the film allows the characters to experience forbidden pleasure, letting us witness the emotional consequences, both positive and negative, in the short and long term.

The Brutalist 2024
Is it enough to just be impressed by the scope, vision, performances (most anyway), and just the general audacity of it all? Maybe. But unfortunately the grandiosity of it was too often unbearable and removed me from the experience.
The second half delves so far into melodrama that it disappoints the patience and nuance of the first. It just wanted to be EVERYTHING so badly.
It deserves to be seen and appreciated as an “achievement” if nothing else.
