I gave the first Fantastic Beasts film a chance because it introduced us to new characters, and was only the start of its world-building. But after a strong start in this sequel, the middle hour takes too long to set up subsequent drama regarding Creedence, the Queenie and Jacob love story, and the battle Grindelwald is waging on everyone. It feels like a second preview into the world of Fantastic Beasts, with more exposition than plot that forwards the story.…

This came out the same year as Sunset Blvd. and is also as sharp in its commentary, and vicious in its dialogues between the characters. From one Joseph to another, you make me proud, Mr. Mankiewicz. Maybe a tad long, but those last 15 minutes are perfection.
