As was the case in Yojimbo, the Ronin remains the best character here. Unassuming, amusing, & clearly a level above everyone else when it came to his skills with the sword.
Think I enjoyed the overall conflict & story in Yojimbo more, but preferred the look of this one & the action. My black & white film history is limited but this was easily the best looking one I’ve watched.
I wish Oscar Isaac played these kind of characters more often, because he’s so good at it.
In what’s a pretty serious movie, the dancing scene is so out of place & hilarious. 10/10
Me seeing how ‘Scottie’ acted around Madeleine in his apartment: “Hmm the vibes this guy is giving off are…. Very creepy.”
Me watching the rest of the movie unfold: “Ah, yes, he is a creep 😳”
Perhaps a product of the times but some of this was so absurdly goofy & unbelievable that it was borderline hilarious. The acid trip dream. The ending! What!
