I think “this is important” gets thrown around a lot with media these days, and I’m certainly not prone to using the phrase, but this documentary is really fucking important. The catharsis and redemption these dopey NJ cliches of brothers are willing to display - and the motivation they’re given by the extraordinary trans/ball community - is so thoughtfully presented by the filmmakers. Girl Picture 2022
Adored this one. By far my favorite Sundance watch. Especially a fan of seeing a coming-of-age story wherein the kids find their own way without some deus ex literature teacher providing sage advice, its depiction of REAL high school dramedy, and perhaps most importantly, the women experience pleasure without being punished for it. All three girls were spectacular, but Rönkkö had my favorite performance with such a fun take on the “awkward” friend. And the script and direction - *chef’s kiss*
Side shade: Mimmi in this movie is what The Worst Person in the World should’ve been. Still not over my disappointment with that one.
