surprisingly solid considering that this is basically the polar opposite of the original. i appreciate the decision from hooper to do something new rather than just remake his masterpiece from 1974. gotta admit these character redesigns are a downgrade though.

i like a british romance film but this did not work for me. the male lead dexter is really unlikeable to the point it’s acknowledged in his character, but it is still expected of the viewer to be invested in the main relationship where there’s no chemistry.

the story being framed across the same day each year is a unique structure that would benefit from a more believable romance. comparatively, love, rosie tells a similar friends-to-lovers lifelong story much more effectively for me as their leads were a perfect match, so i cared more about their lives.

this is absolutely the most farfetched story in the series and i feel like it got more ridiculous by the end when there was a cgi alien. regardless it had plenty of fun action sequences and harrison ford is always great in this role. the first half of the film before they fly to peru is genuinely great and had it kept that momentum going, it would probably be regarded a lot better. i honestly still prefer it to temple of doom though which is my hot take!
