  Strange Darling 2023

  From the disjointed narrative to the Tarantino-inspired chapter title cards, this feels like an indie thriller from the late 90s/early 2000s. It also feels like a movie that doesn’t really get made anymore (especially evident by the “shot on 35 mm” card at the beginning). It’s weird and I enjoyed it.

  Deadly Friend 1986

  I only knew about the infamous basketball head explosion in this Frankenstein-esque love story but there’s lots more here to enjoy. A Johnny 5-style robot who mumbles and says its own name (voiced by Charles “Roger Rabbit” Fleischer). A group of motorcycle tough guys who are comical in their menace. And some good gore (in addition to the basketball death). It’s all very silly and the ending makes no sense but it’s a good time nonetheless.
