I agree with other reviewers who have mentioned the big disconnect between the first two acts and the third in Heretic. Whereas the first two acts build suspense through tense dialogue and creepy action, the third act squanders the buildup rather than providing a coherent and cohesive release. What starts as a battle of wits with sinister undertones turns into a run-of-the-mill horror film by the end.

I approached this film with cautious optimism, as a life-long Elvis fan. Cautious — because I didn’t want to see a caricature that couldn’t get past the larger than life star drowning into dissolution. Optimistic — because it’s Baz Luhrmann, and he has a reputation for artistic integrity.
