I’m a sucker for anything set in NYC, circa 1985-1990.

Juror #2 2024
Having just served my own extended jury duty (albeit one where, thankfully, I didn't realize halfway through that I was the murderer) I found the actual deliberation—and even the make-up of the jury itself—to be surprisingly close to my own experience. There are people who are WAY too into playing detective, people who really don't care which way they vote, and people who desperately want to finish and get home to their family.
Overall this was just way smarter than I expected it to be, with some genuinely surprising moral choices, in ways both good and bad, by the characters. Great final shot, too.

Mandy 2018
The vibe and surrealism of a velvet painting from the 80s. Cage is fantastic of course, but on this second viewing (my first time on a big screen) I had a heightened appreciation for Andrea Riseborough, who carries the first half of the movie. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before or since, which is worth five stars in my book.
