Phillip Ko is a nevernude with revenge on the mind in Boxer’s Omen, a film amongst the most heady black magic throw-downs I’ve ever seen…and it’s definitely the grossest thing this side of the infamously maddening Red Spells Spells Red. 

Despite being a boxing movie on its face, the sports facet finds itself tied up in the trunk the moment Buddha intervenes on an impromptu murder and things start down the well-trodden path of vengeance.

Naughty nudie monster movie in the dank mansion with the curse that’s killing everyone in the family…or is it? Guts and gore and vomit galore, steel-toothed carnivorous frog puppets tear through people when the fitting personification of the dreaded Dragon King curse that has befallen this massive family of very cool cucumbers when it comes to seeing their cousins get mauled to death in a glorious festooning of marmalade and pink yogurt isn’t crawling around awkwardly handing his dastardly business.

And…

Furious Slaughter has, no joke, more fights per square inch than any other martial arts movie ever made, and…it’s got some of the greatest visual flare for the era (it’s beautifully shocking how inventive the cinematography from Ching-Piao Yeh is here for what is otherwise a Wang Yu vehicle basher from when he was red hot on the market)

Years, decades before Tony Jaa blew everyone away with that one-take battle up the stairwell in The Protector…Jimmy Wang Yu kinda…
