Camera Nerd Alert: I love that this was shot with a $2000 Blackmagic Pocket 6k G2 and vintage Nikon pancake 45mm 2.8.

It definitely looks digital but some of the quirks work really well with the setting and tone of this film. Shout out Yoshio Kitagawa for keeping it raw.

Took a few unexpected turns but didn’t move me like Bong’s others. A lot of recurring themes about class and humanity’s tendency for exploitation - great cast and dialog (weird accents all around) - but it lacked the level of nail-biting tension you get from his other work.

Not one slow-mo tracking fight scene either 😤 but it came close toward the end. Shout out to the bazooka guy Thomas Turgoose, who played the kid in This is England.

I still love you BJH and the Elliot Smith was a nice touch.

All due respect to sensei WW and the legend Koji Yakusho, but the team on this really deserves credit for shooting such a memorable film in about 2 weeks, with a super lean crew during extended covid lockdown in Tokyo.

Mega shouts to the DoP Franz Lustig, and most of all, Takuma Takasaki who wrote the (albeit minimal) script.  I just listened to Wenders on the Team Deakins podcast explaining how integral Sam Shepard was in writing Paris, Texas -…
