I unsuccessfully try to sound professional and cool in my reviews, I know.
I have only logged like half of the stuff I've watched
(The Final Cut)
Thought I'd come back to this after five years with a more mature pair of eyes to see if my sentiment towards the cult-classic would maybe change upon a rewarch, but yeah, still nothing. I can certainly appreciate the admitedly aesthetic neo-noir atmosphere and the some-what philosophically rich undertones it's got going on, but the whole package is delivered in a such bummy manner that it really doesn't do anything for me. The plot and characters are…
Still found myself appreciatitive of the way the multiversus stuff is handled, the best thing of the film, that being the finale sequence, still rocked. The thing did feel much more overtly sentimental this time around, but still an earnest effort nevertheless. Huomour unfortunately still very hit and miss for me. Can see why people really like it, can see why people really don't.
"To love... To bear children.."
Closest thing to an actual nightmare being put on screen. Except, it's not. This was not a nightmare. This was something that actually happened. Something that actual, real people went through.
It's safe to say Elem Klimov's Come and See is the most horrifying depiction of the atrocities that transpired in Eastern Europe under the Nazi occupation. Bar none, there is no competition. It's the kind of movie that sticks with you, and not in a nice way. Deserving of all the recognition and praise it has received over the years. A masterpiece in every sense of the word.
