This is genuinely the kind of film I want to be able to make one day. The protagonists journey just feels so whimsical not just in its story but the characterisation, the way Lillian herself was shot so intimately and everything else felt much more distant but not understated at all, the score which was really stunning and the structure. And that grainy film actually felt necessary.

I rarely feel so moved yet laugh so much at the same time…

A bit jumbled in some of its story and pacing but it’s pretty well outweighed by the consistency of the charm and then fantastic balance of its themes and messaging, darker and lighter storytelling. Just such a fun time!

Sadly didn’t get to watch everything I wanted before the oscar’s this year but this was my last watch a really pleasant surprise. A lot of my issues with biopics, especially musical ones, lay within the lack of a strong narrative focus. A Complete Unknown didn’t necessarily fix that but made those elements really charming and captivating. Most importantly, Chalamet really blew me away one again.

A ridiculously brilliant film. It starts off a simple story of a growing woman and becomes something much more clever, complex and interesting, only adding to its overall metaphorical story.

The movie is designed with odd set pieces, unique costumes and unique camerawork that makes a world perfectly crafted to the adventure that Bella goes on as a growing woman.

Everything is excellent and there’s nothing to say that people won’t be saying for years. Just a powerful telling of the female and overall human experience.

    LFF FILM 2

At first the film seemed to be an interesting concept, with an overdone theme of grief and I was worried I was about to spend the runtime appreciating the technical aspects but being bored of the rest of the film.
After a single conversation started to unfold, though, it became clear this film would be an exploration of so many overlooked themes and ideas. I knew it would break me and it did.
    Everything was shot in…
