  Fantastically shallow, edited like a montage at points but still manages to remain captivating enough to justify its runtime. Chalamet’s performance as Dylan is stunning, and anyone who says otherwise is a moron.

  Perhaps the most shameless “mainstream” film ever made. A truly disgusting picture which plays into an almost primal, vulgar sadism while hiding behind it’s supposed —yet very shallow— critique of neoliberalism and it’s gritty, Tony Scott-like technical qualities (one of the few decent things about the film, along with the great performances). Women are relegated to purely narrative “functions”, either serving as virgin idols (Angelica, Bernice) or tools for violent men (the horrific rape scene involving Knockout Ned’s girlfriend, Shorty…

  “Stress fractures in titanium… What kinda work you do?” — That’s all Heat is. Internal fractures and cracks (contradictions) within already crumbling “titanium” institutions, leading to the destruction of the subjects of said institutions, captured in real time.
