Eggers has a knack for depicting cursed nobodies thrashing in their sleep, but the drawn-out nightly terrors left me bored. Much like The Witch, I found myself wanting to yell at the screen, "I get it, they're possessed—now what?" Maybe Eggers just isn’t for me, and The Lighthouse was a flash in the pan.

The Substance 2024
It clung to the notion that youth is the ultimate currency, yet delved no deeper than this surface truth. The editing spoke down to its audience, its rhythm a hollow echo, with sound choices that circled endlessly, draining impact from each intended shock. What should have startled instead fell flat, a series of missed crescendos lost in repetition.
Yet, it must be said—the film was shot with undeniable beauty, its technical craft a testament to skill and precision.

Beautifully shot, but character development and plot falls short.

Fool's Paradise 2023
For a mute protagonist to be justified, the surrounding characters need to be particularly engaging. Unfortunately, their allure falls short. Could this be a commentary on the collective efforts of the entire crew in shaping a star, implying that success is more about connections than individual talent?
For an ASIP groupie, I was very disappointed. Nonetheless, the appearance of the Golden God made the disappointment worthwhile in the end.
