Technically proficient copaganda. Should be shown in college film courses as a case study in how to execute a long take. A complete cop-out at the end, “oh it wasn’t the cops, it was the far right, they’re definitely not the same people.” The Raid does all of this better.
This is why I hate poets and hyper-creative types. Beautiful set pieces, well-crafted narrative, obnoxious characters.
One of the more believable visions of a dystopian future, in my opinion. A world wrecked by the greed and casual disregard of humanity. What strikes me as most accurate is the fact that the people of this bleak future are still working their pointless jobs. If there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that we humans (at least those of us in the "civilized world") will clock in on doomsday.
A film almost entirely without exposition, Children of Men…
I was surprised by the fact that each individual scene felt too long. The film itself didn’t drag, but the components felt needlessly drawn out. I think this would have benefited from either a bit more trimming or a bit less dialogue on the river. If we’re going to watch two straight minutes of paddling, I don’t need to also hear so much pointless “all right, paddle that way” chatter.
