  35mm @ metrograph:
  divine. gorgeous. joaquins best? maybe amy adams best? very likely. jonny’s best score? definitely. just some all time performances from some all time actors in service of a beautiful filme….and then there’s rami malek…who continues to prove his juiclessness time and time again.

  new 4k restoration @ film forum 9/14/24

  For better or worse, this is THE American Masterpiece imo. works on so many layers all while being almost TOO beautiful (the scenes in snow were particularly overwhelming this time around)

  
  seeing it with a packed theater really demonstrated how funny this movie is. further than just the outrageous racism (both diegetic and non) the entire wedding/fight sequence in particular was a highlight of the screening. 

  i brought my dad, as it was his dad’s favorite film. he loved it and told me tonight “he couldnt stop thinking about that movie all day”

  watch #5 on a flight to england and i finally understand why william devane gets a standalone “also starring” credit… his scene with mccabe is perfect

  anyway. a most special and favorite picture of mine.
