  Was definitely caught off guard by Akerman’s rom-com directing facet, but was grateful for the levity on the day. Chuckled through the absurdity of it, the silly plot, the lighthearted and disjointed dialogues, the ingenuity of the characters and the script altogether. At some point, I stopped questioning the quality of what I was watching, and trusted that the hyperbolic sap and cheesy was premeditated and was acting as subtext for something else.   Docufiction following the repatriation and restitution of 26 sculptures, artworks and artefacts of Benin’s cultural heritage, held “captive” for 150 years by France. The film surfaces questions around the ethical conundrums of restitution within cultural institutions —which already are bodies of Western colonial legacy— through a structure that privileges the voices, reflections and outtakes of Beninese peoples in response to France’s return of 26 looted artworks out of more than 3000.

Repurposing Marker’s ‘La Jetée’ on a very low budget, this short gem confounding doc and fiction, takes us through the life of Remo, an actor turned to courrier who navigates the precarity of the relentless creative-work balance. Seeking for a center that cannot hold, the film explores the struggling endeavours of the youth through a comical and honest account of uncertainty, luck, impassivity and hope.
