Diamonds Are Forever 1971
Painfully mid. There are only two sparks of life in this film; Blofeld’s performance and Tiffany Case’s whole schtick. In regards to the latter, she’s a very sexist stereotype, but she has actual character, some great comic moments delivered extremely well, and some degree of agency and self-direction in the story. She’s not just there for Bond to harass - only primarily.
It’s really, really stupid, and not always in the enjoyable way. Where Live and Let Die is enjoyable…

I think this counts enough as a movie to log (it’s a feature-length re-edit but like. fuck you). I’m quite tired of just how New Who centric all the attention Classic Who is getting is; regenerations are all gold, the Saxon theme plays for a silly retcon, we get shots of Gallifrey that are ripped straight from New Who and ALL the future incarnations showed to Troughton are post-Eccleston. Let these stories be things in themselves. The colourisation and re-editing…

It is immensely difficult for me to articulate everything which I hated about this movie, purely because there's simply so much. In every manner, down to its very core, Civil War fails to say anything interesting or meaningful - and, by doing so, fails its characters at every step. Strong sound design, excellent performances and one stellar sequence are not enough to justify the mess of tone, characterisation and worldbuilding that comprises the pleasantly short runtime.
