    The echoes of time reverbrate forwards and backwards, and once every now and again a piece of art is created in reaction to an event that is yet to happen. Godzilla (1998) is a post-9/11 film, despite pre-dating it by over three years.

    Godzilla, in his original incarnation provided a stand-in for nuclear war - a direct reaction to the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, applications of amounts of radioactive indiscriminatory force unseen before by the world at large. Later…

    A solid concept for a sci-fi horror - a mechanical Frankenstein built to preserve the brain of a genius - it's got some great potential. But it doesn't really deliver much or explore the themes all that much - and the Colossus' construction looked fairly flimsy, and you can see the budgetary limitations quite clearly.

    Overall it's not the worst sci-fi b-movie from it's era, but it's also certainly not the best.

    There's not really been many horror films recently featuring an invisible antagonist in a while - the most recent I can think of is It Follows and that was more a partially visible antagonist in my opinion. But The Invisible Man makes that gap seem worthwhile.
