I wanted this review to be longer but i found it so mentally taxing trying to remember specific qualities of this film. Then I came to my senses and thought “why am I stressing myself out over a Letterboxd review for THE ELECTRIC STATE?!?!” Is this what the world has come to?!?

Acting: Lazy and generic, but I don’t know what I was expecting from a film starring Millie Bobby…
I had a good time with this. Felt a bit too scripted at bits, mostly around the parts where they discuss the impact of the pandemic. But the hilarious chaos of it all makes up for it.
I mean theres an Arabic alien, with ADHD, that recites sections of the Quran for his Hamlet audition. And it is beautiful.
Also there’s a trans woman with a thick north dublin accent. Icon.

Listen, before watching this film I was hesitant about Kieran Culkin winning all these awards. I will admit I was very much in the “he’s just playing a version of himself blah blah” camp.
But having now watched the film……i am still in the camp. GOTCHA!!!
