Chalking this off as one of those moments where you feel blocked from the rest of the world when it comes to a consensus, at an extent where either everybody else is in the asylum, or I am. What about this film merits a 3.8 rating? What about this makes it a stone cold 80s classic, save for one admittedly daring transformation sequence?

For a movie that I spent most of my time watching in idle, without feeling too moved by its nadir narrative, with sparsely connected scenes that are meant to echo how this film Tarkovsky at his most reflective, the fact I still found that ending scene with all the choir music hamming it up surprisingly moving. If there’s an opposite term for getting the rug pulled out from under you, then Mirror is like that for me.

Billy Wilder had the magic touch. Even this, an Agatha Christie adaptation of a boilerplate courtroom drama, which doesn’t really pop with twists’n’turns till the very end, is made riveting by his talented ability.
