American Homeboy 2023
I don’t typically write reviews but I was so disappointed by this film. Framing itself as a deep dive into early Mexican American youth culture, it largely took a surface level approach to the Pachuco subculture and Chicano movement of the 40s-70s. As other reviews pointed out, the overall message was so confusing that it was unclear if the director had a clear vision at all and/or rushed it trying to say too many things at once. The archival footage was cool to see and some of the interviews were interesting but otherwise fell completely flat.
