The Devil Rides Out 1968
I wanted this to be way better than it was. It started off strong and had the always wonderful Christopher Lee, but even he couldn’t save the slide into pointless boredom that I felt. I think my biggest issues were the lack of connection between the characters (why does Lee care so much about this seemingly punk ass kid) and the lack of story logic (basically, why does Lee care the characters do what they do and why does anything matter?). It was released the same year as Rosemary’s Baby and for my money, that’s the much more interesting satanic panic film.

Frankenstein Created Woman 1967
Solid Hammer Horror film. Great villains that you love hating. Needed more Peter Cushing for my taste though.

This feels like the dying gasp of New Hollywood’s bloated, idealistic/pessimistic ego. It’s the rambling, ham-fisted musings of an out of touch liberal boomer who really should have stopped after The Rainmaker. It’s shot like a 90s era CDRom video game such as Return to Zork and art directed like a department store Christmas window display. The only thing truly mega about this film is how bonkers it is.
