Satire like this would have blown my mind had I seen this as intended as a teenager. For now it was fun seeing Parker Posey and Alan Cumming goof off together. How did they get away with having the boy band sing a song called "Back Door Lover"?

Piece By Piece 2024
My 9yo watched this the first time without me. Wanted to watch it with me, in part because they really liked it and in part because they has a lot of questions about the grownup parts. They certainly identified with Pharrell as misfit creative kid. Lego aspect made it accessible.
It's fine.

Conclave 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
In an early scene, we see Stanley Tucci playing with the recently deceased Holy Father's chess set, I thought, "Ah, it's going to turn out that Tucci in fact murdered the old pope, and this movie will be all about Machivellian guys in red skullcaps. We need a moratorium on the cliche of chess as a visual metaphor for political scheming."
The movie is maybe half about Machiavellian guys in red skullcaps. That half is delicious. But it's also, in a sincere and earned way, a movie about faith and letting oneself be surprised. I loved it and can't stop thinking about it.

Mission: Impossible II 2000
Downgrading by a half star because I found out that last night I watched this when I could have been watching the goddamn aurora borealis in Chicago.
