  I understand the message and the themes and how important they are. There’s no denying that racism exists in passive forms and that it must be expunged. I can’t imagine how important this film was when it came out; a black director and a black cast making a film about being black in America.

  While the focus on linguistics is a unique way to do a sci-fi movie, it felt overdone. The military subplot was very dry and predictable, and I felt like there’s some missing potential to this movie. Nonetheless, it’s an interesting watch.
