Sicario: Day of the Soldado 2018
About what I expected when a sequel was announced. While not quite a direct-to-dvd disaster, it omits everything that made Sicario great. The change in director is evident from moment one. An underwhelming script fails to add anything new to the leads, despite del Toro and Brolin’s best efforts.
There’s no edge, no shades of grey that the first film dabbled in. Ironically it’s about as by the books as you can get. While the score and action—way more of it this time around—still deliver the goods, it’s an underwhelming effort overall.
