    Beautiful gowns, beautiful gowns. 

    Despite the film’s many problems, Jolie is transcendent. She and Ed Lachman were born to work together. Truly some of the most interesting and intricate cinematography of the year. However, the film really struggles to find its voice, particularly in the first & second act. Larraín’s usual daring direction is nowhere to be found, instead opting for a rather tame and lackadaisical approach. The script also stumbles over itself repeatedly, never quite knowing what path to take…
