Two weeks later and this is still floating in my brain soup. I can’t help but feel a deep corrosive sympathy for Fox. A weak, but innocent mind corrupted by the real world. We watch him fall prey to the cruelty of the gay experience: the absurdity of gays ever-reaching an imitation of hetero-normality, and it all comes crashing down. And as a child of May I felt an even deeper connection to the mayflies metaphor, a powerful foreshadowing for Fox’s downfall.
