An obvious political piece and observation of the direction of the world today. Had some humor and obviously a position, but no real depth. Interesting observation is from my American view this film was all Trump…Korean perspective seems to be that it’s about Japan.
It’s difficult to write about this film. There’s too much ground to cover. I had difficulty getting into it at first as the acting was strange and it felt like Americans trying to write an “authentic” Japanese story. The communication felt very unnatural and completely skated over obvious cultural nuance. I hated this movie when I came out. I was also 21 years old and it was before YouTube or my time living in LA. I think my difficulty with the film came from not having any theme or interpretation that allowed a mystery to unfold. It was too mysterious and just annoyed me. This film is like a surreal dream for me. It covers so many themes of Italian culture and does it in a funny and simplistic manner. I love many Fellini films, but feel this one can be approached without much need to dive deep and analyze the content. It can be taken as is.
