It’s difficult to write about this film. There’s too much ground to cover. I had difficulty getting into it at first as the acting was strange and it felt like Americans trying to write an “authentic” Japanese story. The communication felt very unnatural and completely skated over obvious cultural nuance. This film is like a surreal dream for me. It covers so many themes of Italian culture and does it in a funny and simplistic manner. I love many Fellini films, but feel this one can be approached without much need to dive deep and analyze the content. It can be taken as is.
