    Crossing Delancey

i keep sitting on this thinking i'll have something insightful or witty to say, but sometimes it's very simple and when all the 80's nyc romcom alchemy comes together perfectly you just feel good.

    Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron

am i the only one bummed out that Miayazaki's house isn't 100% more whimsical?

very rough around the edges doc in which we watch Miyazaki begin to lose his fastball as seemingly all of his friends and longtime collaborators die off one-by-one around him 💔

did bring the very scattered third act of The Boy and The Heron into focus for me though and i'm very grateful to have gotten to peek well behind the Ghibli curtain

    Showgirls

one of those types of culty movies that people are tripping over themselves to intellectualize mostly as a result of it's director.

truly some mind boggling and hilarious (to me) reads in the wake of watching this. folks ability to perform the mental gymnastics needed here is endlessly entertaining.
that said, i'm glad the showgirls people have this and lord knows i have plenty of films i feel this type of affection for that others dismiss out of hand.

    St. Elmo's Fire

typically, I find myself contractually obligated to love all movies that follow wealthy seeming post-grads trying (and mostly failing) to find meaning and purpose with lots of little vignettes where they do a whole lot of talking (ever so collegiately) about everything and nothing. mostly nothing. this one had me in fits and spurts, but ultimately didn’t win me over even in the vulnerable confines of a plane. sad.
