Anora 2024
whoops, I forgot to enter my thoughts after seeing the film so this is many months delayed sadly. I remember enjoying it a lot, it’s kind of a gangster movie that never really becomes that scary but always could at any moment. Mikey Madison’s acting was wonderful, but the character is written shallowly in a way that makes some of Anora’s actions/reactions kind of baffling. Yuriy is HOT. don’t quite understand how this won best picture.

a gay movie about being sad for reasons more complex than just being gay. can’t decide if I think the ghost parents and ghost boyfriend is gimmicky or not. definitely had a lot to talk about afterwards.

turns out I still don’t care about straight people’s sex lives. also, how dare they appropriate George Michael’s “Father Figure” for a heterosexual seduction montage. I did enjoy Nicole Kidman squirming on the ground masturbating to porn though, and also when she shoved that tie into her mouth.
