My primary interest in watching this was to see what a documentary filmed by Grandrieux would look like rather than having an interest in the topic at hand. I was pleasantly surprised by how affable the subject of the documentary turned out to be as his philosophical musings and the stories he tells about his eventful filmmaking life were never once boring. Attempting a coherent thematic reading of this film seems almost completely impossible. The reason this film is hard to read is not because it’s very subtle with its metaphors or anything like that, if anything the opposite is the case. Early in the film the main character is shown to stop time, and as this feature doesn't have any bearing on the plot at all, it invites us for a metaphorical reading of this aspect of the story.
