Moana 2 2024
The exposition dump in the first 3rd is brutal. I could feel my IQ dropping. All the character arcs are flat or feel artificial. I'm not a "musical afficianado" but it is telling that I couldn't recall a single song after leaving the theater. Considering all that, it's hard to justify more than a 2, even if the second 2/3rds were much better than the first and had some solid swashbuckling and humor.
Overall... we didn't need this sequel. I'm sure everyone is shocked.

Last movie of 2024, and first time re-watching Barbie after getting the 4k for my wife for Christmas. It's also the first time watching it after reading and observing the debate over the film's themes of feminism and (alleged) misandry. Honestly the whole thing holds up better than I was expecting, and I came away feeling that it doesn't overplay it's themes for the simple reason that the whole shebang is absurdist. It can get away with it's commentary, because of its maximalism.
I will say though that the Oscar for best original song should have gone to "I'm just Ken."Translated from by
